Whoever said Valentine’s is all about sweet desserts and all things mushy? Lets remember that the Day is about expressing your love and no better way that cooking some yummylicious dinner for your near and dear ones.

Well to make your Valentine’s special  this year, here is a super simple recipe that is easy to make even at the last minute. If you are a mother and your Valentine’s dinner will be a family affair, this just the recipe for you. Mild sauce accompanying these cheesy chicken hearts will definitely be relished by your family.

Chicken Hearts with Cream Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 Chicken breasts
  • 2 teaspoons Vinegar
  • 1/3 cup grated Cheese
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

For Sauce

  • 1 teaspoon, finely chopped Garlic
  • 1/2 cup Tomato Ketchup
  • 1/3 cup Cream
  • 1 teaspoon Chilli flakes
  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Oregano

For plating

  • Handful of boiled peas

Method

Step 1: Using a sharp knife, slice the chicken breasts from the side and cut it into halves to open it into a heart. This is the chicken butterfly cut.  Refer to the image for a better understanding of how to go about cutting the chicken, after all getting the heart shape is the highlight of this dish.

Step 2: Rub salt and vinegar on the chicken hearts and keep aside for 10 minutes.

Step 3: Heat some oil on a griddle and place chicken hearts on it. Cook the hearts well on both sides. Remove and keep aside

Step 4: Mix cheese, garlic, coriander and salt in a bowl. Add little water, about 1 teaspoon, to make a paste.

Step 5: Apply the cheese paste, evenly, on one side of the cooked chicken hearts. Put them on a baking tray and place in a hot oven till the cheese melts and forms a cheesy layer over the chicken hearts. Oven temperature should be around 200 C and the idea is to only melt the cheese, be careful as to not overcook the chicken. Once done, remove the chicken hearts from the oven and keep aside.

Step 6: To make the sauce, heat oil in a wok. Add garlic, chilli flakes, oregano and salt to the mixture. Cook for a minute or two till garlic releases an aroma.

Step 7: Mix in the tomato ketchup and cream and allow the sauce to simmer for 10 minutes till thick. You can adjust the consistency of the sauce by adding little water.

Step 8: To assemble the dish, take serving plates and pour the sauce equally in the centre of both of them. Gently, place a warm chicken heart over the sauce ensuring it doesn’t drown in the sauce, we want the heart to stay at the top. 😉 Decorate the plate with peas as shown. Enjoy your lovey dovey meal with the beloved family.

Outsource the dessert this year, I say. Give this recipe a shot…
