l’Ecole Montessori International(LMI) was established in 2007, in the suburbs of Andheri West, with the aim to provide Montessori education to children.  Children at LMI are encouraged to explore, investigate and fulfill their natural curiosity about the world around them. Under the guidance of their certified Montessori teachers, children develop at their own pace and learn that school and learning can be a fun and exciting adventures, thus creating lifelong learners!

This is our conversation with the centre head of L’Ecole Montessori, Mrs Anjali Bhasin.

1. Tell us more about yourself

2. Which unique method of teaching does your school use?

The Montessori approach has been adopted by our school, which is freedom within limits and respect for a child’s natural, psychological, physical and social development. Montessori environment contains specially designed, manipulatives so that a child can engage in learning activities of his/her own individual choice. Children in a Montessori classroom learn by making discoveries with the materials, cultivating concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning.

3. What values does your school inculcate in your students? What are the principles followed by the school?

Life-long learning: We provide engaged, purposeful learning opportunity that promote a lifelong learning.

Respect: We value self-respect, respect for others and respect for our environment.

Independence:  We value the child’s ability to learn independently in a carefully guided and prepared environment. We believe in an atmosphere of order and beauty which allows each individual to strive to his/her fullest potential.

Global Citizenship: We enhance the knowledge of our world and our position. It is the vehicle for creating the path of awareness, understanding, compassion and true peace.

Responsibility: we are responsible to ensure that our core values are a part of our everyday life.

Community: We strive to create a peaceful, supportive, compassionate and welcoming community where understanding and respector differences lead to appreciation, self-respect, confidence and personal growth.

4. A day in the life of a student from your school

Children come to a prepared environment where they get an opportunity to choose their work. There are various areas which we concentrate on.

It starts off with manipulatives where the children are taught hand eye coordination. The activities that they are later made to do, inculcate a sense of responsibility in them. They learn more about the environment and practical life. Activities based on language development, food development, basic eating etiquettes, arithmetic, art are a part of their daily routine. Their musical senses are developed during Music and movement and finally there I sensorial development. They end their day with free play.

5. Where do most of your students graduate to?

Most of our Children have graduated to reputed schools all over with different boards such as IB, IGCSE, ICSE and SSC.

6. Why l’Ecole Montessori?

We work as a family and provide an international and unique educational approach to meet the needs of children.  At l’Ecole we inculcate responsibility, self-confidence, self-esteem and independence in children where they progress according to their needs and capabilities.
