Winter is knocking the doors. Now, our prime concern is to take care of our little one’s health. The cold and dry air can harm the delicate skin of our munchkins. The cold temperatures can cause extra dry chapped skin, redness or flaky skin etc.
A little attention to it will definitely help to keep their kissable skin safe from dryness during winter.
Here are few tips that I follow to nourish my baby’s soft and supple skin. These simple skin care strategies have helped a lot to restore my toddler’s smooth and silky skin.
1. Hydrated from inside
I take special care on my toddler’s hydration by giving him plenty of fluid. Breast milk with nutritious diet is required during winter to keep their skin healthy.
2. Right moisturizer are main skin saviour
As we all know that applying moisturizer before heading out is beneficial to beat the cold weather and prevent chapping. But it is way more important to apply the right moisturizer immediately after bath.
Like all kids my baby also loves to spend some delightful time in warm water. Instead of rubbing the towel on his skin, I gently pat dry over the skin.
I always make sure to apply the Johnson’s baby lotion within 2 minutes of my baby’s bath. Massage it on his slightly damp skin to lock the moisture. J&J baby lotion is so skin-friendly with no harmful chemicals in it. It contains coconut oil.
New Moms, you should be very particular in choosing baby lotion for your little one.
3. Hydrating ointment
At the very first sight of dry skin of my toddler, I switch to hydrating ointment from baby skin cream. Ointment has almost 80% of oil in its composition and so it is most effective in preventing water loss from the baby’s skin.
4. The right soap for babies
I resist myself from buying tempting soaps which are having sweet smelling fragrance. It is always recommended to use soap-free and fragrance-free cleanser for babies and toddlers to retain moisture.
I prefer to use Johnson’s Baby Top to Toe bath which is as mild as pure water. I even try to keep the bath-time short and sweet as too long in the bathtub can actually make the skin dry. Another vital point is to keep the bath-water lukewarm instead of hot to reduce drying.
5. Pick-out skin-sensitive laundry soap
Laundry soaps contain harsh chemicals and fragrance which can make my baby’s skin dry and irritated.
6. Sensible clothing for my baby
Our natural instinct is to cover our little ones with warm clothes during winter season. But in this process, we sometimes layer them up with too many woollens.
Generally babies need one more layer of clothing than adults. I usually check my baby by putting my hand inside. They may get heat rashes during winter as well. So if you find his skin hot, remove one layer of clothing. Also, I try to cover his head and hands if going out for prolonged hours.
7. Use a humidifier
Humidifier helps to keep the moisture intact inside the room. In my toddler’s room, I try to plug-in when he sleeps at night during winter season.
To enjoy your mother child winter time, try to follow the above ways. The baby’s skin will be protected all winter long.
