kids have to be naughty dear

Dont worry.. Carry some crayons and scribbling pads, some non musical toys(not to disturb fellow passengers), few munchies which can keep ur toddler busy. You'll be required to feed your baby at the time of take off (to ease the discomfort in ears) and most babies sleep after that. If so you can also laze during the flight.

can anyone suggest what type of toy I should carry to make him busy

The flight attendants asked me to give liquid to the baby. I think chocolates can come handy otherwise during the flight time if not during take off and landing.
Carry compact toys may be like those magnetic write and erase boards, compact block puzzles, picture books etc.

Gayathri, any sucking action relieves the discomfort in the ears for babies. Giving liquids through a straw cup, etc, really helps, or if you're breastfeeding, that is also great! As for toys, with my toddler, I always carry something new that she hasn't seen before so that it holds her attention for at least a little while. If he has a favourite toy, that's always best! One thing I've learnt from traveling with my child - the more harassed we are, the more agitated and cranky they get. None of us want to disturb the other passengers but sometimes kids get cranky because they're uncomfortable and can't express. Just try as far as possible to stay calm so that your son also stays calm. it's easier said than done, I know! but it helps! And most co-passengers are understanding when it comes to parents with young children.
If i can, i try and book a flight which is around nap time, so that she sleeps. Hope you have a safe, fun and hassle - free journey!
