When my daughter turned 6 weeks old, I was so excited because I wanted to feed her with feeding bottle. I asked multiple questions regarding this in BabyChakra and got both negative and positive response, I so badly wanted to introduce bottles because 1) I was damn tired feeding day and night, I really thought it would be great if my mom or other family member can feed her and I can rest for a while. 2) I'm handling everything alone as most of you all know that my husband is staying Abroad, So taking my daughter everywhere I go was not possible and I was not comfortable feeding her in public (I'm still not). 3) Like all mothers I want my daughter to become chubby so I want her to have extra feed in the night and sleep at a stretch. I also have excess milk supply 4) I don't want her to be a fussy eater and depend on me for the food.
So I started off with mee mee bottles and it was Nah from her, bought pigeon she had once (first and last bottle feed) then started spitting out the nipple, read so many good review about Philips Avent and fell in love with the bottle shape bought one.. Again a Nah from her. I bugged many of my friends and they all gave me lot of ideas including trying cheap bottles and it was always Nah Nah Nah Nah from her.
I got frustrated, annoyed and irritated with my baby, kept pumping, trying and throwing the milk away. But whatever I do she kept pushing the bottle away, I got a pacifier so that she can get used to plastic nipples again negative response from her. When I spoke to her paediatrician about this he laughed and appreciated my daughter " Smart baby you must be huh, You know the difference" I was more irritated.🙄
It took 5 weeks for me to understand that my baby wants me.. My breast. Why did I force her when she clearly showed me she doesn't need feed from the bottle? She once waited for 4 hours without feed as I went out and smiled so happily after I returned, Hunger strike 😂 I have decided I'm not going to force her any more... It's okay if I miss few outings, It's okay if I have to feed her in public which I'm still not comfortable, It's okay to get up at least twice in the night to feed her, Today I finally GIVE UP bottle idea.
This post is just my personal experience, I appreciate people who feed BM and FM in bottles due to various reasons. Please do not feel offended.. As a mom all of us are doing great job. But do not force your baby at any cost. I received this picture in WhatsApp and it made sense to me. I'm ready to be milking cow for next few months before I start with semi solids. HAPPY BREASTFEEDING MOMMAS..
