A Urinary Tract Infection or UTI is an infection that occurs in urinary system due to microbes. It affects entire urinary system i.e kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. UTI usually happens in lower urinary tract i.e. the bladder and urethra, but in rare cases of severe UTI affects upper urinary tract i.e. ureters and kidneys.
MOST COMMON SYMPTOMS-
- Burning micturition
- Increased frequency of micturition without passing much urine
- Blood stained or Bloody Urine / Haematuria
- Increased urgency of micturition
- Dark yellow Urine with strong odour
- Pelvic pain
UTIs are more common during pregnancy because of Hormones ( causes changes in urinary tract which may lead to UTI) and Growing Uterus ( causes pressure over bladder leading to left over urine inside bladder causing UTI)
Tests required- Urine routine (to check RBCs WBCs microbes) and Urine culture (to check the kind of bacteria)..
Treatment- Just ensure to start treatment as early as possible. Usually the course of antibiotic for 3 to 7 days is prescribed or as per the doctor recommendation. Symptoms will get subscide within 3 days after treatment. But, never stop the antibiotic course incomplete.

Neglecting UTI's- causes EARLY LABOR and LOW BABY BIRTH WEIGHT!!!
