This is Sayini our family friend's daughter , She is 36 years old now. Sayu that's how we call her. She went to special school for Autism kids and she can knit, draw, use laptop, mobile phones, read books, do yoga, the way she folds the clothes no one can match her. It will be neatly folded without a shrink.;

She was born to her parents after 12 yrs of their marriage, Sayu has a brother who is much older to her. Sayu's mother could not accept the fact that she is an Autism kid , went into depression and within months she got uterus cancer and succumbed to death, Sayu was just 2 years old when her mother passed away. It was her grandmother who took care of her,; Later her father re married and Usha Aunty takes care of her from the time Sayu turned 7 yrs old. Their bond is emotional, they love each other. Sayu can stay away from her dad but not her mother.; The stereotype " Sautheli ma " is broken here.

We all love Sayu, We give importance to her when she comes home. Her family takes her everywhere. Hotel, picnics, weddings, celebrations etc she is never isolated. There are times she will get cranky like " If someone promises to take her somewhere no matter what they have to" , at times eats a lot and vomits 😁 and she loves potatoes so will say " I still have little space for one more helping of potatoes". Life is not easy with her but her family gives her full support.

Travelling with them can be challenging but recently I read while travelling we can use the code called "Special Service Code " DPNA " Disabled passenger with intellectual or developmental disability needing assistance " One can book the tickets using this and seek lot of help like early boarding, hot meal, seating arrangements etc and this code is acceptable universally.;

Acceptence is all they need, let's be more considerate. We have a 13 year old girl in our building and she doesn't even smile at anyone but I make sure that we smile at her , I make Atarah to say hi every evening when we go down. Next time you see someone with Autism give your wide SMILE .
