I am a mom who formula fed her first baby and breastfed her younger one. I love them both equally and did my best both times. Circumstances were different both times but despite it all I say 'Mother's Milk is best for the Baby'.

I made a doodle on 'Fed is Best' two years ago and it was received well by moms who breastfed and the ones who didn't. I did this not on purpose but I actually believed it. My ideas changed by a very simple incident. A young lady who worked at my house as help asked me which Dabba (packet) milk is the best. When I asked if there was a problem in feeding she said " No Didi, but Dabba(packet) milk makes a baby strong and fair". I tried to reason with her but despite that she went and bought one expensive brand. Like every other mom she wanted to do her best.

I began to notice how accessible this Dabba milk is. Available in multiple brands, marketed by big companies and sold freely without prescription.

The biggest irony is that all these packs have one statement written in caps "MOTHERS MILK IS BEST FOR THE BABY"! .

So even after taking brickbats last year and almost deciding not to go through it again I am here to say it loud and clear.. "Mother's Milk is best for the Baby'. If you can, please breastfeed or pump because it has many benefits. Breastfeeding is not a walk in the park. It can be tough, it requires right guidance and lot of support. A lot of women who do not have any complications switch to other means for convenience or give up due to lack of support. To all the new moms who plan to breastfeed please do your homework. To all moms who didn't breastfeed stop saying it doesn't really make any difference and you or your child turned out ok! Unknowingly you end up promoting the other option. .
To moms who could not give mother's milk I completely understand. For you 'fed' was the best option. I have been shamed also. The endeavor is to promote and normalize breastfeeding and not to stress Mothers to starve a baby. If there are complications in feeding, doctors should be consulted along with seeking help. Latch with love.
