@asha chaudhry post in sharing meals in school reminded me of excerpts from one of my favourite books - Totto Chan. The book is about a little girl. A bright and talkative girl, Totto Chan is expelled from school because she does not 'fit in'. She joins a new school...made from old unused train carriages and finds that she is very much at home here. The headmaster ensures that all children in the school have lunch together and the instructions to the parents is to send 'something from the hills' and 'something from the seas' in the tiffin. The way that scene is described in the book made me feel so warm and beautiful. In fact the entire book is so warm and beautiful. It doesn't feel like all of that was actually happening in Japan in the midst of the Second World War. Have any of you read that book? I am sure all of us that one book that is close to our hearts for some or the other reason. What's yours?

Coincidentally I just saw this book today on the Eklavya publications site. I am making a list of new favourites while reading to my daughter. The Amma Tell me series on Hindu mythology is a fantastic piece of work. The script is vivid and phonetic, illustrations are vibrant.
