A little info that I had come across at the last polio drive... When OPV is given, it not only protects the baby, but immunizes those around her as well, as the polio virus gets introduced into those around the baby, thereby making others also immunised. IPV on the other hand, protects only the vaccinated baby against the disease. It is usually safe to take part in the drive even if baby was vaccinated a few days ago. If you have not immunised the baby in today's drive, call the baby's paediatrician, and confirm it can be given or not. Hurry up mommies!!!

hi @637142e698dafd0015376311 talk to your doctor about it and learn why polio vaccine has been discontinued. actually ipv should be given first, as i understood from various articles, as it is inactivated, and can prevent baby from contracting polio from the vaccine which is a possibility with opv. but at the present time, there is a severe shortage of ipv in hospitals, and hence the order has been opposite, opv first and ipv later... minimum 2 doses of ipv is a must, i think, actually 4 doses are recommended. and instead 2 ipv and 4 opv is being given due to the shortage. it is better to talk to your doc...
