A Mothers challenge - 'Our daughter still wakes up at least once during the night. Since we both work all day, and we need our sleep, we do the easiest thing to get back bac to sleep; give her a bottle. We know its a bad habit, but we don't know how to stop' With busy schedules and a demanding toddler draining your patience and your endurance, you probably don't want to deal with any more resistance - especially at two or three in the morning.
But you are right. Feeding your toddler in the middle of the night at this stage(whether breast or bottle)is not a good idea. And for several reasons. For one, nighttime feeding is associated with the development of tooth decay. For another your toddler doesn't need nourishment during the night. Feeding the child when she doesn't need to can lead to obesity, confusion about the purpose of eating for the wrong reasons. Feeding your child close to waking can easily spoil her appetite for solids at breakfast. Clearly you and your toddler are caught up in a vicious cycle of supply and demand. The only way to train her is to cut off the nighttime food supply and reset her internal hunger clock.
