"Aww , you're pregnant congratulations!" "Congratulations?! Do they mean congratulations that you throw up at just the thought of food?", I thought.
"Or congratulations, that the delicious aroma of the spices that once made you salivate, now makes you want to barf your guts out?"
"They are secretly smirking, I am sure, the whole lot of them!".
"They KNOW I desperately want that plate full of samosas and tikki from the street vendor"
"They KNOW, I don't care about the dust, the sweat or the bazzillion calories"
"Those biznitches and schnitzels!" The horses in my head, high on hormone crazed adrenaline just would NOT stop running.
It was the beginning of the end!
My appetite was no more going to be satiated with an array of dishes. The would-be mom in me would not stomach any strong flavours OR they just wouldn't be healthy enough. The mom in me just wouldn't have the time. Taste has become a word without any flavour exactly like the half eaten khichdi on my plate. Diaper, poop, peep, wham! Slam! "Oh mommmmmyy! The baby has just broken Thomas the engine." It has been two years since the summer of 2016, before when, I was one of those people. You know , the one of; non-mom people? The ones who get to spend the Fridays at work, picking restaurants and deciding on what they would be digging their teeth into that evening. Or the ones drawing inspiration from MasterChef and creating wonders in the kitchen. Or the ones who would sneak a channa chaat into their evening strolls. Or even those ones posting food pictures on Instagram.
I used to be one of them. These people to me are fictional characters out of fair tales. Diaper, poop, peep, wham! Slam! "Oh mommmmmyy, baby just needs diaper change!" The salt in my hand never makes it to the food and the bland plate full of food never empties in my stomach. Diaper, poop, peep, wham! Slam!
"Oh mommmmmyy, the baby is just trying to crawl to the dangerous corners." The baby is sleeping and the husband just got some piping hot Chinese take away. Diaper, poop, peep, wham! Slam!
"Oh mommmmmyy, the baby just woke up from his slumber" We decided to be adventurous today and took the baby out to a restaurant. We sit him down in a baby chair and he likes swinging his feet, playing with the cutlery. This is lovely! The baby seems happy! This is totally working out!! Food glorious food arrives and I imagine myself like one of the vultures from ice age the meltdown ready for the much awaited feast . . . . Diaper, poop, peep, wham! Slam!
"Oh mommmmmyy, the baby has decided to have massive tantrum! "
