Initially babies don't know how to latch . I also used nipple shield for few weeks. But u should also try without shield many times a day. no matter if baby takes times to get correct position. also u just try everyday without shield ,but make sure if baby is unable to latch then plz use shield so that she should not remain hungry. Try without nipple when baby is very hungry so that he has to latch directly

let the baby's initial hunger be satisfied with nipple shield on.. then when baby pauses slide the shield off.. and try latching without shield.. keep trying this till the baby gets proper latch.. gradually u can stop using shield once the baby learns to latch without shield..keep trying..
