How to Clean a Washing Machine?

Do you clean your wash machine regularly? now that sounds weird, isn't it? We all think washing machine cleans itself but no, you are wrong.

It is very important to clean the washing machine once every two weeks. Washing machines can be breeding grounds for salmonella and other germs. Mold and mildew, at best, can cause bad odors in the machine and on your clothes. It grows because dirt, lint, and water gather between the seal of the machine's tub and door, thus creating the ideal atmosphere for the breeding of mold, mildew and other bacteria.

The dirty washing machine can cause skin allergies and even the laundry will smell bad. At worst, it can make you sick. Here are my easy and budget-friendly tips to keep the machine clean.

Steps to Clean & Sanitise the Washing Machine: -

1) Clean the machine door and area around the tub, with the solution of half part of water and vinegar plus few drops of dish soap. Put it in a spray bottle, just spray and wipes it. You can use it to wipe the machine from outside as well.

2) Machine filter: - remove it and clean with a dish soap using a toothbrush. You should clean this once a week as it gets very dirty.

3) Detergent dispenser & Fabric Softener dispenser: - Clean this, with the help of a toothbrush using the same vinegar, water, and dish soap solution, then wipe it or rinse it with water.

4) Cleaning Wash Machine Tub: - Vinegar is excellent for disinfecting the machine, removing detergent build-up, and getting rid of odors.

Add 1/2 cup vinegar with 2 tsp baking soda, spray this solution and let it be for a minute then use the scrub sponge and clean with it, then run the machine on a full cycle using hot water.
If your machine does not have a function of hot water, then add a bucket of hot water and then run the machine. Don’t add any clothes or detergent.

5) If there is any stain. Again, fill the washing machine with hot water and add one cup of bleach this time to remove stains. Let it sit for about an hour. Then run the washer through a complete wash and rinse cycle.

Once the cycle completes, just wipe it with a dry cloth and your machine will be clean and odor-free. To keep your washer smelling fresh. Always leave the machine door open so that the inside of the washer can dry and air out after every wash.

Doing this periodically, will not only keep the machine germs free but will also help to clean laundry better and odor-free.
