Breastfeeding your newborn could sometimes lead to cracked, sored nipples and discomfort. This discomfort is a result of sucking, latching, and at times even biting.
Some easy tips to care for your nipple while breastfeeding include:

Wear clean and comfortable bras.
Avoid wearing wet nursing pads or bras.
Avoid using shampoo or soaps on the nipples.
Apply a few drops of breastmilk to the nipples after feeding your baby.
Avoid wiping the nipples after feeding. Let it air dry.
Do not feed on the side with damage or a cracked nipple.
Rinse your nipples with saline (saltwater).
Use warm compressions.
Apply medicated ointment to heal cracked nipples.
