Babies are propelled to seek the breast. How's and why?
Babies can only see in dark and light,/ black and white. Their focal length also takes time to adjust, but it's enough to see the darker areola and move towards it.
They smell their own amniotic fluid on their mother's chest (assuming they haven't been wiped down after birth). It smells familiar comforting and secure.
They hear the familiar heartbeat that has accompanied them their entire quatic lifetime. A constant beacon in the unknown.
Their mother's colostrum tastes familiar and the touch of her skin is warm and encourages the release of oxytocin.
Babies feed with their whole bodies. Their first feed are not so much about hunger as about the unfolding process of becoming human..
