Can someone explain me about Pacifier? 1. In what circumstances we can give pacifier? 2. Can pacifier be given to baby who wants to suck her fingers? 3. How many months old baby can have a pacifier? 4. Will a pacifier bring nipple confusion?

@63713e1bd28b060015d9141e not sure if this can be hereditary both my side and my husband's side sucked thumb. So I'm worried she becoming one.. I feed her in lying down position at night for 20 mins she drinks milk but after that she wants to just suck.. If I remove it, immediately she takes her fingers to her mouth and starts suckling. The moment I remove her mittens she takes her fingers to the mouth. I was thinking if pacifier would help. But again I also doubt if she will accept it because she doesn't want to take bottle at all. She wants only my breast and I'm not ready to feed her more than 6 months..

Hi Rebecca I would personally not advise you a pacifier unless extremely essential when you are not ready to be around always. We never used it. Yes it might create nipple confusion. Moreover sucking it most of the times may make Baby gassy as excessive sucking leads to that. Also lead to throat, ear infection at times. Is there a particular reason you are wanting to use?
Baby would get used to it as well .

Becca sweetheart,i would say,try giving it,okay and see if she takes it!! Rehu always spitted it out,she is too smart to chose what she needs. Even when kids have a need to suck and be given pacifier, some would just outrightly reject it!! I would not suggest giving pacifier because the kid is sucking on fingers, its a process where they discover their hands and fingers and paci would definitely come to hinder it! Its nature and growth is associated with it! Though pacifier wont bring nipple confusion but at times you would not know whether the kid is hungry or just wants to suck and u place a paci in her mouth, maybe she spits out a few times but if persisted, she might get cues that milk is not going to come and suck on paci which again hinders growth. I havent seen it happening with my baby though. But have read it,that it has some possibility to occur. In the west, they give paci as soon as kid is 6 weeks old. Hope this answers to some extent.
