* Nivaan started off with Apple puree and loved it to the T.

* Then after a week of apple puree, I introduced carrot puree to him which was also a hit with him.

* After a couple of weeks of carrot puree in the morning and apple in the late noon I introduced to him a homemade khichdi cereal. He progressed with this khichdi well :)

*Now he has the khichdi base cereal with carrot and beetroot. Very soon I plan to add beans to his khichdi as well.

* He has also progressed to Apple suji kheer for his late afternoon.

* His tastebuds also accept mashed chickoo/sapota puree.
Receipes:

Base khichdi receipe

4 cups rice washed and soaked on a cloth overnight.

1 cup moongdal washed and soaked on a cloth overnight.

5-6 jeera (aids digestion)
Take all the ingredients and pan roast them till the rice becomes fluffy and non sticky to the pan.

Once this cools down, grind the mixture to a very fine powder texture and store it in an airtight container.
Preparation:

Take a scoop of this khichdi base and add 7-8 scoops of water and pressure cook with desired vegetables and finely mash.

I first mash with a potato masher and next use a tea strainer to make a very smooth puree like texture for Nivaan.

please start with fruits and veggies first and then cereals..it helps make that transition to food easier for both you and your baby.. this is from my experience :)

For Apple Suji Kheer.
I use a scoop of Suji/Chiroti Rava and pan roast it till it turns slight brown. To this I add 8-9 scoops of water and boil the suji till it gets cooked well and you can see the suji bloat up in size. To this I add a pinch of finely grained cardomom powder to enhance the flavor a bit.
Using this base kheer I add pureed apple for my son's late afternoon meal . Slowly I plan to replace apple puree with mashed banana puree to give his palate a good range of options. Please remember to give at least 20ml of water(boiled and cooled) to your baby post a solid feed with cereals (rice, suji, wheat, ragi etc) to ease constipation
