Independence and freedom are two of the same context words. However, I prefer using freedom because it conveys the intent in a more positive way.
My definition of freedom kept changing with my age. When I was a little girl, not doing homework was my freedom. As a teen girl, my freedom was roaming in the city with my friends and eating samosa every day.
As a mature grown-up girl, I executed my freedom with studying the professional course of my choice in the far city. Furthermore, I experienced the sheer joy of freedom being a self-sufficient working woman who was super ambitious and used to welcome every challenge. Buying new clothes every weekend was also a kind of freedom then. And now when I am a wife and a mother, my definition of freedom is entirely different. It is now being able to frequently shop online, ask my husband to make a tea for me, denying to cook when I don't want to and not letting anyone suppress me. I am now more defensive and thoughtful.
As a very subjective term, the meaning of Independence is changing every few years for me.
Google says freedom means "the power or right to act, speak or think as one wants". I have never agreed to this definition. If one has such a library to do what he or she wants, the equilibrium of the universe will get affected. Freedom comes with the great responsibility for rightly executing it. It does not allow one to hurt others or stop others from practicing their rights.
Freedom to me is:
* To be able to make a choice out of best possible options I have. Right to choose and right to go for alternatives.
* Freedom is the liberty to let go all the tensions, worries and boredom that creep in my life. Freedom from fears and all insecurities.
* Freedom also means "Tolerance" because you might not agree with people and their values, but you should respect their point of views so that world moves on in harmony.
* Freedom is being at peace and considerate with others. The state when i I am able to understand what the other is going through.
* Freedom is to live happily with my family without any worldly pressure or fear of being judged for my choices!!
Awesome post!! I absolutely loved this point- Freedom also means "Tolerance" because you might not agree with people and their values, but you should respect their point of views so that world moves on in harmony.
