question
Hello Doctor @ . My son is 1 month and 20 days old and he is exclusively breastfeeding. But I feel that my milk is very thin. He becomes hungry after an hour. He cries and sucks his fist. Is there any solution to increase the milk supply which can give him satiety? Please give some suggestion.

After 10 to 15 minutes of the first milk, as the breast empties, the milk flow slows and gets richer, releasing the sweet, creamy hindmilk.

Congratulations Snigdha on having your baby! Even if your diet is not perfect, the best part about breast milk is that it meets your babys nutritional requirements. You should continue eating small meals with healthy snacks in between as Breastfeeding makes most mums very hungry all the time. Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables. Eat different pulses, milk and milk products like yogurt, paneer, buttermilk. Also if you are a non-vegetarian, do include fish and meat in your diet. Eat oil and ghee in moderation. It is very important that you continue to take your supplements regularly after checking with your doctor. Green leafy vegetables, peas, legumes and pulses, whole grain breads, dry fruits, seeds, eggs, lean meat, fish, paneer, melons, citrus fruits help meet a Breastfeeding mum's nutritional requirements In addition to the above, following foods are considered in boosting a mother's milk supply: - Methi seeds - Fennel seeds (saunf) - Garlic - Green leafy vegetables like spinach, methi, sarso saag, dill - Cumin seeds (jeera) - Gourds like lauki, tori, tinda - Lentils especially red masoor dal - Nuts like almonds and cashew Most importantly do drink 8-10 glasses of water Remember to eat in moderation and have a balanced meal including different kinds of foods.
