hello experts. will u explain abt epidural? whether it is used in normal delivery or cesarean delivery? means y it is used?

epidural is mainly used for a painless normal delivery. a catheter is places in the epidural space assessed from you back and drugs are <u>injected</u> to block the sensation of pain. so you get uterine activity but do not feel the pain. it may be used in certain cases for a ceaserean section also. and after the section it can also be used to prevent post op pain

hi dear, epidurals are used to make both normal, as well as c-section painless... for normal delivery, epidural is optional... mobile epidural which would be given in normal delivery, would allow movement, while making labour painless... the chances for a episiotomy(tear near vagina) is higher with epidural as pushing force cannot be determined by the patient... in c-section epidural is definitely required....
