hello.. 
it is just a insertion of fore and mid finger in to the vaginal canal to check the position of fetus.. whether there is descending of head or not, approximate cervicle length, approximate time for labour etc etc.. nowadays, most women dont cooperate for this, hence doctors usually explain before examining.. it will not pain..
