question
hi. i am a mother of 3 months old twins. my babies were premature hence were kept in NICU for 8 days. they were on top feed. since then i am trying hard to.give them my milk but they dont take it well. sometimes i keep sitting for hours feeding them and after that they still take the same amount of.powdered milk that they usually do as if they did not take my feed at all. i have to struggle a lot still and i try to feed them but they do not take it. they cry so i have to give them.top feed. doctor said that now they won't take the milk now. my nipples.are also too small and hence i have to use silicone ones. can someone help.i am very disheartened.

Have you considered expressing your milk and using that as the first option? Many times smaller babies can find it difficult to suckle strongly and this can also cause a high calorie burn if continued for a long time. I would suggest latching the babies for about fifteen to twenty minutes and then first trying to feed expressed milk and then formula as required. You should meet with a Lactation specialist to help increase your milk supply and also get some positive reinforcement.

Hi dear, please dont't feel disheartened... You are trying so hard. Its difficult for first time moms to feed their babies properly, and you have twins! Many premie babies are not strong enough to latch when they are born... You should consult a lactation specialist and see if that helps...
