question
Hi, My son is 3 months old and preterm. I've been trying to bf him since he was born but he wasn't able to latch on to my nipples as I've small nipples. So, had to express milk and give. But now after 3 months, milk production has decreased and he's mostly on top feed. He gets only twice of 80-90ml of bf otherwise formula.I wanted to ask is there any solution to this problem?? I feed him 70-90ml every 2-3 hourly. Since the day he's on formula(Nan Pro 1), hes been passing green foul smelling stool every 5-6 days. Consistency is toothpaste kind. Change in stool pattern is due to formula I feed or stomach infection?? Regarding milk production, I'm taking Lactonic granules and zandu satavarex daily but I think these aren't helping me anyways. I wanted to express and give bf at least for 6 months as he was premature but I'm helpless and feel as a failure.

Hi Sonika, Everyone around me made me believe I couldn't exclusively Breastfeed my baby since she was an overweight baby. On top of it I had all the possible pertinent with the nipples... Small n bruised... For the nipples I tried nipples shield... That helps the nipples to come outwards n also helps the baby Breastfeed... But use it only till u feed the size has become apt... Also plz plz throw away the nan from ur life... If u want to exclusively that's Wat wud help... Don't worry d baby won't stay hungry... He wud cry... May get cranky.. Bt eventually wud give in... Instead of pumping let d baby latch on... The more he wud latch d earlier the shape wud get normal... Hope ds helps

Hi Sonika, a very warm hug to you. I had small nipples too, pulling them outwards has helped me. By three months the body produces as much as the baby needs as the leaking for me had almost stopped. In my opinion, by breastfeeding often and at regular intervals you would give your mind and body signals to produce more milk. Every time your baby demands milk you can start by breastfeeding for a few minutes and then give formula. To express more quantity of milk try feeding from one side and at the same time express from the other side. I know it is difficult but it has worked wonders for me. Be positive, think you have enough for your baby and see the magic happen.

this will sound crazy but throw away that box of nan. feed him every 15 minutes if I think he is hungry and that's how the production WILL GO UP. I fell prey to pediatricians and other people who could not guide me on how to stop nan and feed my milk and I failed at bf miserably. the only way out is to stop nan at all. you need to take a minimum of 4litres of water because the water will be very important for production of milk. can't comment about stool but I don't think green poop is fine.
