Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the activity of the thyroid gland is abnormally low. In this condition, the (TSH) thyroid-stimulating hormone in the body tends to be higher than normal.
Thyroid is such a condition where the nutrients or the food that you take in interferes with the functions of the gland. This does not mean that thyroid can be managed alone with dietary changes. A combination of the right amount of nutrients, medication, dietary changes, supplements, and a better lifestyle, all work together to manage this condition.
A few foods to limit when suffering from hypothyroidism include:
- Soy products like tofu, edamame, tempeh.
- Vegetables like broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, cabbage.
- Starchy root vegetables like sweet potato, cassava.
- Certain fruits like peaches, pear, strawberries.
- Nuts like pine nuts, peanuts, walnuts
- Brussels sprouts and all varieties of millet.
- High processed foods like cookies, cakes, frozen foods, processed meats, candies.
- Beverages like tea, coffee, sugary drinks, energy drinks, alcohol.
- Gluten-containing foods like pasta, bread.
- High fiber foods like certain legumes, beans
Additionally, people with hypothyroidism should keep a check on the supplements that they take to manage hypothyroidism (iodine and selenium), as an overdose of these supplements can lead to adverse effects or could worsen the condition too.

It's not a complete restriction though .Once a while if you consume it in limited quantity, it's fine

Didn't know that all these food items need to be restricted if one is diagnosed with hypothyroidism.
