I have been told by the elders to put geru mitti ( the red clay) on my stomach during the time of eclipse. Is it true? Or rather safe?

My maid said since they all have to work outside irrespective of Grahan and being pregnant they follow this red clay ritual apply on their clothes and believe it will protect them though they go out and work.; So nothing wrong in applying.
