❤️ KARWACHAUTH RITUALS AND TRADITIONS -

.

Call it a tradition or for the love of their partner, Karwa Chauth is a special occasion for all the women across North India. Hundreds and thousands of women get decked up with all the ‘solah shringar’ to look like a beautiful bride.

It is the only festivals on which the married women get dressed like a new bride with all the accessories.

.

❤️ WHY IT IS CELEBRATED?

.

Celebrated 9 days before Diwali, Karwa Chauth is observed on the fourth day of Kartik month as per the Hindu calendar. Having its roots in mythology, Karwa Chauth is one of the most important days in the lives of married women. Traditionally, this fast is observed by married women for the wellness and longevity of their husbands. They go without food and water from sunrise till moonrise. However, these days men have broken the tradition and fast as well for their wives. Not just this, several young unmarried girls too, fast in the hope of getting a handsome and loving husband.

.

❤️ THE RITUAL

.

Symbolizing love and respect for each other, Karwa Chauth rekindles the romance between husband and wife. The preparation for this auspicious day starts early and the woman keeping the fast takes a bath before the first light of the sun and eats the sargi given by her mother-in-law. This sargi thali is prepared in such a way that it provides energy to the woman observing fast throughout the day.

.

❤️ WHAT IS SARGI?

.

Sargi is the food that’s eaten by the woman who fasts through the day, after taking a bath in the early hours of the morning. This food is prepared by the Mother-in-law. The sargi has both sweet and savoury dishes. The sargi thali includes pheni or meethi seviyan, fruits, coconut, meethi mathri, dry fruits, mathri, paratha, sweets, and tea/juice.

.

❤️ IMPORTANCE OF SARGI ☺️

.

Sargi holds a lot of significance in the lives of women observing fast and Karwa Chauth is incomplete without it. This pre-dawn meal isn’t just about the food eaten in the wee hours of the morning, it’s the love and blessings of a mother-in-law for her daughter-in-law that includes gifts as well. It not only completes the Karwa Chauth rituals. #bbcreatorsclub
