Lentil Soup
Toor dal -1/2 cup -water to pressure cook
-Tamarind juice - 3 tbsp
-1 medium onion thinly sliced
-1 small tomato chopped
-Drumsticks -4-5 -red chili powder -1/2 tsp
-turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
-Salt as required -coriander leaves
-green chilli slit or chopped -2 -Jaggery- small piece ( or 1 tbsp sugar ). talimpu / tempering pappu pulusu with Ghee
* curry leaves
* 1 Pinch hing or asafoetida
* mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
* cumin seeds/ Jeera - 1/2 tsp
* red chili - 2
* garlic crushed -3-4
Method:
1. Dry roast the Toor dal for 2-3 min till golden brown so the flavor comes out.Add water and cook the dal for 3-4 whistles. The dal should be cooked properly and mashed.
2. In a vessel heat 1 tsp oil . Add chopped onions,tomatoes,green chilli curry leaves and sauté for 2 min . Then add turmeric,salt,water and Jaggery. Boil for 5 min. Next add the tamarind juice,cooked dal,cilantro and cook for 5 min till it thickens a bit.Don’t make it too thick add water if required .
3. Finally make talimpu/tadka by heating ghee in a small pan fry mustard seeds,jeera,hing,red chillies,curry leaves and garlic till they turn golden brown .
4. Add it to the boiling pappu pulusu and turn off the stove . Serve hot with white rice and Ghee with a side of papad. #momhealth#childhealth#familyhealth#momnutrition#babynutrition
