The AFI is a score expressed in cm given to the amount of amniotic fluid seen on ultrasound of a pregnant uterus.&#160; Normal AFI is between 8 to 18. Low AFI is cause for concern. High AFI is associated with other problems such as diabetes. The median AFI between 20 and 35 weeks is 14. After 35 weeks the AFI starts declining.
