My baby is almost 6 weeks and my nipples are still really really sensitive. It's painful when he first latches on but then is fine while he is drinking. Then after the feed and for a few hours I get sharp pain and tingling behind the nipple and the areola. Is this normal? Has anybody else had it and does it go away?

They say applying breastmilk also helps.. but it never helped me.. Applying a glycerine based ointment could help heal cracks.. and try to massage with oil.. any oil is fine so long as you wash it off before feeding him.. hot towels placed on the breast during a shower also help

it is normal initially. but if it burns also u might have thrush infection. I had the same thing. it's pretty normal. try to hot compress ur breasts and clean them before every feed. try to look for white patches on ur baby's mouth. if it doesn't go with water then it's probably that. and if theres no infection try rubbing some breastmilk on ur nipples. it works wonderfully on cracked nipples.
