My parenting article published on today's Bengali newspaper @eisamay.digital http://www.epaper.eisamay.com/Details.aspx?id=54515&boxid=38119 Kids these days are mostly growing up in nuclear families. Somewhere childhood is lonely for the little ones. They miss out on the experience of grandparents, relatives and cousins.
Parents are mostly working and it's only on weekends they get time to spend with the little ones. The result... Parents take the kids out to malls, shopping most of the time and indulging in materialistic things.
As a parent and parenting consultant I feel that such kids should be encouraged to meet their friends during the weekends. Parents can plan play dates and call the children home so that the little ones get to spend the whole day at home among friends and family.
The kids can do various activities along with studies. They can also enact various roles in passing and sharing knowledge with each other in a playful way. They can also help in the serving of meals and eat together with everyone. This not only keep them engaged but also help them feel responsible and wanted.
