We make it during festivals in Orissa and we have one festival especially dedicated for this , which is called as Prathamasthami where the elder child of the house is offered a Ovation, with a lighted lamp , new dress and tilak. It is a Puja for the life and prosperity of the elder child in the family !! This pitha is steamed in Haldi leaves which have a great aroma and flavor and also have the health benefits of Haldi.. #recipe Ingredients: idli batter either home made or market brought . Coconut jaggery filling and Haldi leaves .
You can make the coconut jaggery filling before hand and store it .take little oil or ghee and put some crushed elaichi , add cashew nuts and Raisins and grated coconut . now add little bit of jaggery to it and saute ...keep aside ,. Clean the Haldi leaves and apply little oil and cut into hands if they are very long .
Put little bit of batter and then the coconut filling and again little batter .top it with another haldi leave .. You can make it plain without leaves too directly on the steaming pan..
Steam for 15 minute and let it cool for 2 minutes..remove it and serve ..While eating remove the leaves and Relish :-) While making this the entire house is filled with the aroma of Haldi leaves .. It is healthy as well as filling . You can give it in the Tiffin too as it remains soft through out !!
