Nazar na lagg jaaye! Shooing away the Evil Eye!

#NazarUtaro #ChildooTales

We all utaro nazar in India. Whether we believe in superstitions or not, when it comes to our childoos, we all utaro nazar (get rid of the evil eye).

Since we are a country of many many cultures, there are many many ways to do this ritual. Got me intrigued as to what everyone here does at their home??!! I've heard of nimbu, mirchi, salt, spitting, jhaadu, burning cloth and lots more. Thankfully, in our house, we do a simple ritual using 7 black pepper corns.

We are Multanis (the language is a dialect of Punjabi) so what my mom utters is in Multani. I won't say the whole thing but will roughly translate the gist of it.

My mom makes me sit down. She puts 7 black peppercorns in her hand and holding them she waves her hand around my head. Then she will say something like "Dogs, Cats, Neighbourhood, Parents, Relatives, sabki nazar uttar jai..." [What she means is every living being around is included in the nazar utaro process!!! Sometimes I would make her say teachers or officewale also depending who was giving me grief!!!]

After saying the line the first time she circles the whole body.

Then she repeats saying her little nazar rhyme. In total she says it thrice. So it hardly takes a few minutes. Vital minutes for any mom!!!

Then she goes and chucks the pepper corns in the toilet :)

And yes, I too do the same for my childoo!

So tell me how do they utaro nazar in your homes and what do you do for your childoo? I'm super curious to know!!!! Share pix if you can! You can even create a separate post, using #NazarUtaro :)

I use salt. What I do is, I take a pinch of salt and circle it 7 times. Without seeing the salt I put it under running water. It works for me.

If I wanna do anything for Nazar.. I do chant Quranic verses which we believe in always it protects from evil... I always read and recite Quran every day.. so I didn't do it on particular to Nazar utaro...

its becoming more interesting..I didn't believe in all this pehele but now I do. at our place Tuesday and Saturday are considered very important Nazar utarne ke liye.first, hanumanji ka jhada is very fruitful agar Nazar is very high toh pandit vl give u jhada for 3 days or else one time is fine.second at home v take red chillies with salt and mustard in a paper and mother's hair also if doing it for the baby move it 7 times from top to bottom and den burn it on the burner if it's smells then no Nazar and if not then there is Nazar.i believe in dis coz I have seen my daughter getting calm once dis is done. at my home dey say I should not do it for my daughter as tat doesn't works so I get it done from maid or my mil does when she is with us at home.
