POINTS TO BE CONSIDERED BEFORE CHOOSING A MATERNITY HOSPITAL-

Soon after pregnancy is confirmed, Many mums choose the hospital first and then find an obstetrician or gynaecologist that practices at their chosen hospital. Others start with;choosing doctor first.. Whether you start by finding a hospital for your delivery, or an obstetrician you like, there are some important conditions to consider while deciding where to go for your delivery.. Judging a hospital you have never been to before might seem difficult but there are a number of things you can consider-

1) REPUTATION- You can start by finding out what kind of a reputation the hospital has. A general internet search will reveal hospital rankings in medical websites or journals or client reviews, about expertise of their doctors, client reviews too..

2) Feedback from others experienced mothers/ ex- patients- talk to mothers among your friends, family or colleagues who have already given birth there. Their level of comfort and satisfaction with the place, staff and service might give you an idea of what to expect.;

3) Hospital Visit- Just take a good time and visit hospital. check the neonatal ICU's, emergency wards, labor room, special wards, toilets, reception, drug store etc. if you have any doubt just ask the nurse/ staff and clear your doubts. Questions like- is the doctor available 24×7? What are the admission procedures? Is there drug store inside hospital or medicines are bought from outside? Will the hospital supply the baby birth needs or should be brought from home? Food is available for patients or should be ordered from outside? How many can stay with you during delivery? Etc etc can be cleared..

4) Affordable- most importantly check whether the hospital is affordable or not, whether the billing wil be with in your budget or not..

5) Distance- The closer the hospital is to your home, the more convenient it will be for you, the day you need to go in for the delivery. Especially if yours is a high risk pregnancy or if you have had;pre terms or pre mature deliveries;in the past, a hospital close to home is important..;

Hope this helps moms to be to choose there maternity hospitals!!!
