Real story - My brave friend and her daughter! #purestories
Narrating an incident from her life..
As I woke up from a banging alarm, I realised I was late for school. While mom was still preparing breakfast for us in the kitchen, she’s been down with cold since two days, but she gotta work! My younger sister and I got dressed up and were off to school. As I was about to leave, I kissed mummy and told her to take care of herself & get some good rest. She smiled and nodded.
Ten years now, I stand in the same shoes as I am a mother too, I work each day to run errands, take care of my little girl, my husband’s parents, relatives, friends and the list goes on. One morning I felt extremely sick, it was time for my girl’s play school and I got up, made her lunch box. While I was busy doing everything I do daily, I forgot having my breakfast and pills. It took me so many years to realise that mom did everything out of love and concern for us. But we gave her nothing..except for false promises on mother’s day and birthdays. She was selfless, she still is.
That afternoon husband came home all tired, his mother came to him and asked if he needs water or food. I just looked at myself, felt this deep inside that..nobody has asked about my health...I rolled my teary eyes away from them. Husband demanded for food and a cup of tea..while he was eating, I was just beside him..He asked me, ‘How is your health now?’.. ‘Please get well soon because you got to take care of house and my parents’ ‘I was so happy.. all of a sudden I started feeling better.. but sad too because my health is important just for taking care of others’ I replied, ‘Thanks darling am doing better now as you’re home’.
Later then, husband went to take his power nap..and I was hooked to my novel and as I started seeing the clock...main doors opens, little girl of mine comes running.. She hugged me tight and said ‘Mumma, Nanna isn’t well you told me yesterday..should we go?’ I replied her..’yes after your lunch..I made your favourite chicken curry, go get freshed up’. I completed household chores and began to get ready to leave. Told my husband that the dinner is ready, just microwave and eat in case we are late. Got downstairs..sat in the car..as I pulled my little girl closer in my arms for a journey to my mom’s...this tiny girl asked me..few questions which left me speechless..they were so mature and I was completely spellbound hearing them..
They were..
‘Mumma which home is yours?’ I quickly replied, ‘Your dad’s my dear!’ ‘Nanna is your mom, why don’t you stay with her?..like I stay with my mumma’ I exclaimed, ‘Oh dear! Girls live with their husbands after marriage’ ‘Mumma is this your new home..? Nanna’s home was your old home? Do you miss them mamma?’ ‘Yes I do’, I said. I kept looking at her..with teary eyes.. ‘Mumma tell me..why does Dad stay with his parents and you stay without yours?’ Before I could speak..there came another question.. ‘Mumma do I have to leave my home and you one day..?’ All I could do was to hug her tight..and murmured to myself.. ‘A woman has no home..’ She looked at me..’Mumma why are you crying..?’ I replied, ‘Nothing..just worried about your Nanna’ She wiped my tears and said ‘Mumma I love you..I wanna stay with you forever..please don’t let me go anywhere’
I kept looking at her eyes... and nodded.. In typical Indian society, women are believed as goddesses, queens, princesses, first lady of the house and what not to praise her. But in fact, in my opinion there’s no home for girls..because eventually everyone in her home keeps reminding her she has to go one day to her own house..her husband’s house. And when finally she gets married, the people around her makes her realise each and every day that she doesn’t belong to this home.
We women go through so much in our lives just to keep our people happy..but what about our happiness? this story is where my friend struggled adjusting her life as a married woman but God gave her a daughter who looks upto her! She is a single mother who works independently now and I can proudly say she is setting great example for women around her. She was pushed out of the home by her husband because he had an affair with some lady..and a married woman couldn’t stand this. Due to several issues with her in-laws and husband, she choosed to leave them and move on with her daughter..with a brave heart!
