How many times have we all wondered looking at our sleeping bundle of joy, how wonderful is this little miracle, and be proud of creating something so cute!!!!❤️
Fact check btw: for most of the moms, their baby seems to be the cutest when he/she is sleeping. Agree? I know that you do🤣🤣🤣
Many new moms have this common rant "MY BABY DOESN'T SLEEP AT NIGHT" or "MY BABY SLEEPS NICELY DURING THE DAY BUT IS WIDE AWAKE AT NIGHT"
Sister.. I feel you! Almost 3 years back, when I had delivered my daughter, I used to ask same question to myself and almost all mommies I knew, including mine.. when will my daughter sleep at night? I was a new mom, in a nuclear setup. Not much help, tired and exhausted, having to manage a kid, family, food.. on top of that, this girl wouldn't sleep. Those were tough times, but somehow we managed to sail through, and I was successful in giving her sleep training early. Here are a few pointers that helped me sleep train my daughter:-
🌛You can start sleep training as early as a week old baby. Ofcourse, you won't succeed from day 1, but starting early has its benefits. The sooner the baby knows difference between day and night, the better.
🌛The key is to make the baby understand the difference between day and night. For this, make sure whenever you feed during the daytime, make the feeds more lively, and bright. A bit of noise from outside, vehicles honking, dogs barking, and sunlight from the window is absolutely fine. Similarly, night feeds should be absolutely quiet. Obviously there won't be noise from outside, but you too have to ensure to either feed the baby without switching on the lights, or in a very dim light. Make the environment very calm and noise proof.
🌛 During daytime, in between the feeds, talk to the baby a lot. Show things around, play, sing, basically keep him/her engaged and alert to make him understand that daytime is when we stay active. Similarly, during the night, after the feeds, do not talk to the baby as much as possible. Put the baby to sleep silently after feed and burp. Ofcourse, in a dimly lit room.
🌛Set up a nighttime sleep routine.. it can include a light massage, sponge/bath if the weather is hot, moisturizing session, changing into comfortable sleep dress, feeding, bedtime story, or anything else that you would like to include. Fix a schedule according to your baby's liking and your convenience, and stick to it. Follow the same each day at around the same time so that the baby knows it's time to go to bed now.
🌛white noise helps a lot in some cases. Basically it means playing light noise clips or light sounds that reminds the baby of the sounds when they were in the womb and they go to sleep soon. Like, mixer grinder sounds, TV on low volume, vacuum cleaner, or even mom singing to the baby.
🌛In my case, baby wearing helped a lot. If the baby is colicky, it will help a lot, as colicky babies want to be held a lot. Get a good ergonomic carrier, and pop in the baby, and you are absolutely good to go. In minutes matter, my baby M was asleep, which otherwise took like an hour or so. Light swaying motions help baby compare the movements to the ones they felt in womb and therefore they get relaxed n drift off to sleep soon.
🌛 Swaddling is something almost all moms recommend. A nice cozy swaddle will remind the baby of the snuggly feeling they had when in womb, completely protected from anything or anyone. Plus it helps keep them warm too.
🌛 Ensure that the room temperature is comfortable, neither too hot nor too cold. Babies will need an optimum temperature of around 26° to sleep comfortably, and since they are unable to regulate their body temperatures on their own, they will need an extra layer of clothing than us. Which means, if you are wearing 2 layers of clothing, make the baby wear 3 light layers of clothing, and then put them off to sleep. (Remember, swaddling counts as a layer too). If the baby is sweating, then remove a layer and then put to sleep.
🌛 Lastly, remember, they are small babies. They don't know the difference between day and night. They won't start sleeping all night from day 1. They will wake each 2 hours for feed, and then go back to sleep again. We can just give our best in training them to understand the difference between day and night, but can't do anything forcefully. Keep patience, slowly things will fall into place. So ladies, these were few pointers that helped me sleep train my little munchkin, I hope it helps you too!!! Till we meet again 😊

Some babies do this quickly and easily. But many others have trouble settling down to sleep – or getting back to sleep when they've wakened – and they need help along the way.
