SOUND ADVICE! It is around us, all the time- the celebratory festive loud music passing by, the horns honking, the cackle of friends at a party, the whistle of the pressure cooker, a machine being started somewhere, a phone ringing, TV sounds, a dog barking, or even the incessant talk in our own heads...it is the surround sound that we are constantly listening to- consciously and unconsciously. Our brain interprets the Sounds we hear, making us feel fearful or relaxed, dis-oriented or alert, happy or sad, healed or dis-stressed. Sounds invokes in us, a plethora of emotions. Sounds affect us physiologically, altering our perception and reaction to the world around. We navigate our world of relationships too, through what we hear between the lines, so to speak- whether it is approval, boredom, irritation or love. We are the only species who have specialized vocal cords to not just make sound, but manipulate it to create words. We have developed over 6000 different languages worldwide. Each word in every spoken language, carries not only vibrational energy within it, but also a meaning which elicits an emotional response within us. Use your own sense of sound, (for it is the most powerful tool), to energize and re-vitalise yourself. - Listen to sounds from Nature: the wind moving, water gushing, rain pattering and birds twittering. If you listen carefully, by shutting the chattering in the head, you will be able to hear the rain or birds, even in a city. - If there is no access to Nature, listen to chants, instrumental or classical music regularly. Music has the power to relax and soothe. - Use energizing and motivating words to communicate with the world around you. - And most importantly, listen to what you say to yourself, it is an excellent indicator of what is going on inside of you. * For more awareness about how sound interacts with us, listen to Julian Treasure’s (@juliantreasure) TED Talk (@ted @tededucation) on “The 4 ways sound affects us” (less than 6 min video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gya8fRY4KQ * This article on sounds, throws some interesting research going on in the world of sound. http://upliftconnect.com/expand-your-mind/
