WHAT IS STRESS?

Stress is primarily a physical response when the body thinks it’s under attack and so it switches to 'fight or flight' mode. It is anything that puts high demands on you such as an exhausting work schedule or a rocky relationship.

However, also know that not all stress is caused by external factors.
How stress affect our health

Indeed, stress symptoms can affect your body, your thoughts and feelings, and your behavior. Being able to recognize common stress symptoms can give you a jump on managing them.

Stress that is left unchecked can contribute to many health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes.
These are some of the Symptoms of stress

• Low energy.

• Headaches.

• Upset stomach, including diarrhoea, constipation and nausea.

• Aches, pains, and tense muscles.

• Chest pain and rapid heartbeat.

• Insomnia.

• Frequent colds and infections.

• Loss of sexual desire and/or ability.
How to treat stress
1. Take some deep breaths.

2. Talk to someone you trust.

3. Create a stress diary, note down when you feel stressed and why.

4. Have a health check with your doctor.

5. Exercise.

6. Eat a healthy, balanced diet.

7. Try to avoid smoking, alcohol and caffeine.

8. Make time for things you enjoy.
