‘They are little artists, let’em be!’

Leave them with material around and watch them create a world of their own. When I supply my little one with paint, clay, paper, and scissors or any stuff, she tries to experiment and construct images and figures. Yes, I let her be more messy and creative! It is strongly believed that artistic impulse works great in the early years of life, but sadly it is often attenuated as a child matures.

Most of the times I’ve seen my little one experience happiness and satisfaction while doing things her way, she enjoys the process of making things. Taking risks, making mistakes, solving problems together with others and experimenting are all essential parts of the creative process.

Painting is a fun activity for toddlers from as little as 14-15 months. You can make homemade colours too as I used to prefer in earlier months but now I give her water colours. This activity actually became a stepping stone of success for Simra, as she learnt colours through mixing. She enjoys painting a lot more than any other activity, because everytime I give her something unusual to paint on..for example as you can see in the pictures, I gave her leaves to paint.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” ―Pablo Picasso
