Talking to my child yesterday evening while the news was on.

My hubby was watching and I was thinking we should close it to protect my curious 5 year old. The media was mud slinging.
But it was too late. My kiddo stared firing his questions.
1. Is India at war?

2. Why are we fighting our neighbors?

3. Are they bad guys?

4. Is our pilot ok?
What answers could I give....the history of partition? A lesson of politics? Nope he was just too young. Too tender and way too innocent.
Here was my reply. How I handled the horrible topic of war.

1. I talked calmly and not biased. No India and Pakistan are not wrong and not right.
2. I was positive. I told him that the pilot was very well trained and is doing fine. There will be peace very soon
3. Sparing the details I did tell him that sometimes countries get into a fight. But they ensure the people are safe at all times. Army protects us
4. I reassured that there is a policeman like big group that settles and controls fighting just how mommy does when you fight.
I distracted his mind and made a note not to put the dramatized media on when he is watching.

How are you dealing with such Tough Talks on War? Post #ToughTalks

Yeah thats a totally another level of motherhood which i am anticipating soon as managing the kid at their emotional level is all together a task. And i dread that as i was myself a pandora of weird questions who wouldn't calm down unless satisfied and well understood. If my kid does the same then i am surely gonna be slayed.
