When I was pregnant, my mil always addressed my baby as 'he'. She was super excited and did all puja path so I could have a baby boy. Obviously it was very embarrassing for me as never believed in such crap ... I was raised as just as my brother was and I see life that way. One day I asked her why she wanted a grandson so badly and would she be upset if I had a girl instead because for me nothing made any logic. She is a mother of two daughters whom she loves immensely and Pampers me like my own mother. Anyways so I decided to confront her . Her logic goes like, " I know daughters are better than sons. I have two daughters who are my life and I admire you more than my son because its only a girl who has a heart to feel someone's pain. I know that you feel more sensitive towards me than my son, but it's the son after all who burns the body in custom. Daughters are not even allowed to touch the body". No matter how sons treat but they are the ones to send parents to heaven" !

Well since I know my mother in law in and out I knew her intentions could never be wrong but I wonder which logic what they been brought up ?? Who teaches all this logic to them and what has managed them to believe all this ??

I gave her a very simple reply that day which I think changed her mindset. I explained her that if your son shows you hell through out your life than what's the point of dying and going to heaven ?? Not that I am meant all sons are bad but in general if your child be it daughter or son do not treat you well while you are alive will it even matter later? And after you are dead will you be in peace that your last rites were performed by a man who made you suffer? I told her that I don't care what I have unless I get a child who loves and cares for me till my last breath.

That day I realized that patriarchy has not even left religion and teachings .. if you find yourself in a similar situation ever try to find out the reason because you never know what new logic you might just get to know 🤣
