With winters now getting real chilly in my place, I am looking forward to Saturday the 13th January. Guess what?; It's Lohri and one of my most awaited fests of the year.
The Punjabi tradition is most awaited and respected. Besides the legends and folklore associated with the festival, why it has remained a fave at my house is coz we get to make a bonfire in our front-yard and revel in the heat. And time to time, the Lohri Or fire gets fed with corn, chikki and nuts. All that we eat, we feed the fire.
The revelry goes on as my granny sings folk songs that remind us of times back in Lahore and her small pind or village. We make merry clicking selfies and giggling.
The night concludes with Chana Daal ki khichdi and rajma. Some Achar on the sides and the fiery heat adding to our comfort from the comfort food.
We don't douse off the fire. It gets off on its own.
