Your little one starts getting independent as he/she grows to a toddler and beyond. Newer milestones and the excitement to learn new skills start developing in them.
One such milestone that requires extra attention and effort from your end is Potty training. Most kids start learning this complex process from the age of 18 to 24 months.
Where each kid is different, it’s important to know when your kid is ready for it and also know some easy tricks to train them.
Some tips that can help make potty training easy are:
- Do not force your kid for potty training. Wait till he/she is ready for it.
- Get them excited about it by taking them shopping to choose the potty chair or seat they like.
- Encourage the process by buying some fun underwear with their favourite cartoon and let them know that once they learn to use the potty chair, they can wear them.
- Ask them to inform you when their diaper is wet or pooped in.
- Make them familiar with the words “pee” and “poop” and ask them questions like “do you want to pee or poop?”
- Teach them how to sit on a potty chair or seat with their clothes on.
- Teach them things with the help of examples, by showing them how to sit on the potty chair or seat.
- Teach your kids to identify the clues for the need to go for potty while making them sit on the potty chair.
- Set a habit of making them sit on the potty chair after 20-30mins post-meal to teach them potty sensation.
- Lastly do reward their good learning.
