Q:

Any tried and tested method to remove the femite gel? I had applied it yesterday, washed it many times with soap and water all through the day, but its effect doesn't seem to go.

Charu Sareen Gujjal(TheMomSagas)

Dr. Payal M, Dr.Shilpitha Shanthappa- it would be great if you can advise.

Charu Sareen Gujjal(TheMomSagas)

asha chaudhry, Sweta Nagubandi, Priya Sood- anyone experienced in this?

Rhituparna Mitra

try nail polish remover and then wash with soap. Assuming you are referring to the Femite nail paint which people use to stop thumb sucking...

Charu Sareen Gujjal(TheMomSagas)

Yes Rhituparna Mitra it's the same. Thanks. I will try that 👍

Rimsha Idrees

hi charu I've been thinking about using it for breast withdrawal fr my 20 month old.. how was yr experience wt it ..shall I use that??

Dr. Shilpitha Shanthappa

hello charu...
if you really wanna wean completely then only use this gel.. as this effect will not end up to 4-5days... Femite lotion which is extreme bitterness wont vanish soon... yeah try Rhituparna's method.. because most moms complain about this effect only..... hence, it is applied only when you need to wean completely..please update if you succeed in any tips, so that we can help others too.. Good luck... 👍😊

Charu Sareen Gujjal(TheMomSagas)

Thank you Dr.Shilpitha Shanthappa. I wasn't aware of this effect and applied yesterday. Was thinking of this since long but couldn't gather that much courage but finally did it yesterday as was suffering through a bad cervical back pain. Both my twins vomited thrice after this. They were super cranky all day, didn't sleep at all and were almost pleading for milk everytime they looked at me. By the evening I was myself in tears and cursed myself for tormenting them like this. It requires a mum to go cold turkey as the effect lasts long and is torturous for both kids and mums. So Rimsha I dress take this decision wisely. I didn't know of the consequences and fell in doctor's trap. Only if you completely wanna wean go for it and be strong hearted. I tried using a nail polish remover. It seemed to have work to an extent. My daughter did latch back today but son didn't. Infact he is not even coming near to me much. Probably is too scared. Hopefully he will settle in a day's time.

Dr. Shilpitha Shanthappa

i can understand your situation... i ve some tips which i used to wean my daughter- hope it will help you too..
You need to take an active decision as to when you and babies are ready to wean, as this can take time and patience.
- You need to start by reducing the number of breastfeeding sessions in a day. Start by the ones in the day, and finally, reduce it to just one feeding at night.
- babies will be taking more solid foods around this age. This includes oats, rice, cereals, fruits, vegetables, yoghurt and milk etc also..
- Start to increase the time in between feedings. This way when they are hungry they might opt for any other option over milk. There is no need to worry if they misses any feeding, as by one year of age the number milk he requires reduces to about 500 ml.
- Next, you need to make other members of the family also participate in feeding your son. This way babies will know that you are not always available for feeding.
-You can also plan more activities for babies to participate in throughout the day. there mind will be preoccupied with the activities that they are indulging in.
This will take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. You need to be patient and you will see changes. It is never advised to use any chemicals for such processes, cause ultimately this is what babies will also ingest.

hi Charu how r ur twins doing ? I just read ur post n now Im scared abt weaning by son too. just remembered my nephew situation wen my sister was trying to wean him off. even after 8 yrs I still remember those days how he used to cry .but pls don't feel guilty . U doing it for ur babies good. it's difficult to raise one baby n u have twins... . I hope u guys r doing fine tc.

Charu Sareen Gujjal(TheMomSagas)

Thanks Nisha. Very thoughtful of you to ask. My daughter did latch back but son didn't. Infact he isn't coming near to me much. Is too scared. He keeps crying day and night for milk but doesn't take it when given. I can't forgive myself for being responsible for this situation. Just hoping this phase to pass soon. Praying they either he latches back or completely forgets this.

Charu Sareen Gujjal(TheMomSagas)

Thank you Saima. My one baby started feeding again but one did not.

asha chaudhry

hey charu. pls dont be so hard on urself. everyone goes thru this phase and yes its painful. i m sure u will find ways to distract ur childoos and this too will pass. dont be disheartened. tc. big hugs. Manveen Dua Gayatri Rao

Charu Sareen Gujjal(TheMomSagas)

Thanks asha chaudhry. Really need that hug 🤗

asha chaudhry

charu one from my childoo also! she's my hug vending machine!!!

Gayatri Rao

Hi Charu! We moms are reservoirs of guilt most of the time. What you did is definitely for your babies and for yourself so that you take care of them better. Weaning from my experience twice needs another adult's help. Now that one of them is off the breast because of what you tried don't try to get back to it. Just move on. Weaning once again will be too much for you and the baby.

Charu Sareen Gujjal(TheMomSagas)

I get your point Gayatri Rao and it makes so much sense. It's just that those few hours of crying and consoling bring the feeling of regret even more. But as you said this was needed. Doctor advised me this long time back but I was lingering it on. But now that it's done I should stand by the decision. Thank you for guiding me the right way. And thank you again asha chaudhry. A big hug back to your doll too. You guys are a bundle of strength and motivation for me right now 🙂🤗

asha chaudhry

hey charu how are u doing girl?! been thinking of u and ur bubs :) lots of hugs!!

Charu Sareen Gujjal(TheMomSagas)

Hey asha chaudhry thank you for asking. Am doing good. My son is better now. He never latched back nor accepted milk in any other form. But he is settled this way and cries less. My daughter is back on breast now and am happy about that. I found all of yours suggestions very useful. It's the support of mums like you all that helped me sail through this tough time. A heartfelt thank you and hugs ☺️

Sujata mali

Hi Charu , today I have done the same big mistake . I had bad back pain n in rush hush I applied Femite solution on both my breast. N the whole day I regretted. I cried myself to do this to my 18 month old son. Can u plz help me n his some tips on how to remove the solution taste from breast. Plz need ur guidance pleaae

Charu Sareen Gujjal(TheMomSagas)

Hey Sujata Mali. Don't cry please. Frankly it's effect fades on its own. I tried every bit continuous washing, using nail polish remover, etc. Even applied chocolate paste/honey before feeding to nullify its effect. However the first day nothing worked. My daughter did latch back on the second day but my son couldn't come out of its effect. I would say try any of this and see if anything works for you. Even if nothing works don't lose heart. Kids adjust soon to this change. Keep cuddling and loving your child all through. The more you do that, more easy it would be for him to adjust.
