Q:

I gave birth last week.  Could make some dietary requirements and restrictions please?

Sheeba Vijesh

hi sumira, you should continue having a good diet just like before delivery.. have 3 ltrs. of water, very important... 2 glasses milk, dals, vegetables, fruits, egg whites, sprouts, soaked almonds, soaked raisins. also have soaked fenugreek... use less oil, especially if you have stiches, small fishes, chicken... you can also take flax seeds, ragi, fennel seeds... take good rest, walk as much as you can... till 6 weeks no exertions at all and if c-section, be careful till 6 months...

Roopashree Siddireddy Gayatri Rao aditi manja suggestions please

Suhasini Vinod

Sheeba Vijesh... hey sheeba.. did u mean fenugreek seeds?? could you please elaborate how to consume?? soak in water n drunk water r shud we consume seeds also ?? how long it should be soaked??

aditi manja

Sumira Bhatia congratulations!! you can have everything in moderation. avoid junky oily food. don't have too much spicy and sweet stuff. you don't have to say for 2 people. have something every couple of hours. Priya Sood asha chaudhry  #tagfwd

hi suhasini, yrs fenugreek seeds... you have to soak overnight... you can try either of the two... daily 1 teaspoon soak in some water and have morning the seeds and the water.... second method is part of postnatal kerala care, this has different versions too, but i had like this... i dont know if its followed at other places -  soak 1/4 cup fenugreek seeds at night. morning, pressure cook till its soft and mushy, add re- melted jaggery according to taste and coconut scrapings or coconut milk... run it in the mixer a bit... this one i actually hayed the first day, but soon i started enjoying it... its bitter sweet... this was given for a week... sumaira everyone tells us what to eat but I would like to suggest a few things... don't get into the dry fruit and ghee laden laddooss. they do not help with milk supply. eat a lot of greens, atleast 200g everyday to keep your hemoglobin upto the mark. good hemoglobin will ensure good milk and good health. drink a minimum of 4 litres of water, you can use an app to map the amount of water u r drinking. it is possible infact I dink about 7 litres water in a day. keep a bottle handy so you can keep sipping whenever you see it. have food high in nutritional value - eggs, chicken, paneer, are good sources. keep a check on the amount of unnecessary ghee you would be consuming. hope this helps. the greens and water are very imp tips.

Harneet (clanpedia)

eat what evr u want but in moderation. there are no limits on ur diet that ur child will have gas cold or cough. nothing happens cause of what u eat.. thats just a myth.

Sumira Bhatia

Harneet Khurana Prisha Lalwani thanks a lot.  it is so difficult here in India when you have too many people advising you . someone actually told me not to have fruits and I was so confused.  especially the ghee laden stuff is killing me

aditi manja

Prisha Lalwani that is so true. ghee is good. but in moderation just as any other food. Sumira I stuck to what my gynaec advised and followed it to the T. I agree it can get difficult to convince our elders but we have to be firm at times. :)

Prisha Lalwani (Mummasaurus)

I was not allowed to have water. I used to wake up thirsty una le to talk but they would give me 2 to 3 teaspoons of water after frowing and then yelling all day

aditi manja

Prisha Lalwani yeah my relatives told this to me too man. but I made sure I listened to no one and had my way. my mom had quite a few nasty fights!! it's so sad. I mean giving birth is such a happy occasion. but thanks to these differences it can make life so hard for everyone involved. Luckily my Father in law is a doctor and my mother in law is herself quite a rebel. so they totally supported me. it was funny I was fighting with my mom rather than my mother in law..haha

Sheeba Vijesh

Prisha Lalwani how did you survive!!!

Sumira Bhatia

Prisha Lalwani no water is a bit too much!! everyone who comes to meet the baby comes with their own set of advice.  it's confusing and annoying at the same time EVEN if the advice comes from a good place.  my poor mother is too gullible. she wants to do everything.  I have already have had put up with a few rounds of playing snap with people aditi manja haha

Prisha Lalwani (Mummasaurus)

Sheeba Vijesh I did not survive. I barely breastfed my children and I curse myself for that. I was even once taken to the hospital due to dehydration but who cares?

Prisha Lalwani (Mummasaurus)

Sumira Bhatia just say yes I will definitely try that, that's great advice and walk away and do whatever the shit you were planning to do anyway. trust mom's on Babychakra, we have all battled our way to be able to suggest other mothers. we have done the research so we can help a struggling mother.

Sumira Bhatia

Prisha Lalwani that's what I do now.  babychakra is a life saver

Sheeba Vijesh
