Q:

Pinching pain in nipples . Is it normal .Priya Sood@asha

Sumira Bhatia

it is probably because the baby is not latching properly.  I had that initially and my doctor suggested nipcare.  I applied that and also applied bf on my nipples and let it dry.  it worked like a wonder.  now that the baby is latching properly and takes in the whole nipple.  the pain is gone!

Hi Foram, it could also be the let down reflux that is causing the pain. Let down reflex is our body's technique of milk flowing from the areola to the nipples. Sometimes if the milk comes with a lot of force and the milk ducts are constricted, you might feel a pinching kind of pain. Usually as the body gets adjusted to feeding the pain also stops. Make sure your posture is correct. Your shoulders and neck should be relaxed and your back should be well supported while feeding. Pain can also come during let down due to breast engorgement. Feeding more often and also cleaning the nipples when you have bath by expressing some milk helps this issue. If the pain persists for a long time you might want to check with your doctor  for clogged milk ducts or any other infection. But mostly likely the pain will go away. Tc!

hi forum u hv been given excellent advice by all moms. for ur back pain pls use a hot water bottle. pls use pillows to support u while feeding. Sheeba Vijesh has a good tecnique to put baby down after feed in a way baby doesnt wake up. tc

Rakhi Puri (beautyofmommying)

you can try applying ardo gold cream for relief.... you can breastfeed with the cream on...just wipe with a tissue before feed....try feeding from one breast for 35-40 min even if he takes 10 breaks....in beginning my daughter was also doing similar...cry, regular feed demand, sleep only in lap but with time it improved....

Dr. Payal M

breast or nipple pain along with warmth redness point to an inflammation. pls get it checked.
a month old baby may still be settling into a routine with frequent feeds. almost all babies go through this phase when they dont want to be put down.. can u get someone to help u manage fr few weeks.

awww man that sounds so bad Foram I hope it will get better soon. Hope the paediatrician's advice works. Keep trying ways to combat colic. Regarding the nipple shield I had got mixed reviews. So I had flat nipples and hence was having extreme problems initially with latching. So I was suggested nipple shield. But then i got to know that it could cause nipple confusion to the baby in the future, so then I dropped the idea. With regular feeding, my nipples got better and life became easier for me and my bub. I hope the colic issue gets resolved gradually for your baby. I have read that warm moist compress helps with sore nipples. Maybe try that as well. More power to you girl. It will get better :) :*

Foram I really hope he gets better soon and you as well. my baby kept me awake all night yesterday and I feel really exhausted . can imagine how hard it must be for you.  no sleep for three days and with a crying baby and aching nipples.  sending you blessings. hoping it will get better and easier soon
