Q:

My 4m baby sleeps for 4-5 hrs continuously. Total he sleeps for around 10-11 hrs in a day. Should I allow this or wake him up every 2 hrs for feeds at this stage?

That means, your baby's internal clock has kicked in, and he can differentiate between day and night. He should be on the way toward an established sleep pattern. During this time, babies need an average of 14 hours of sleep per day: At 4 months, a baby can go eight hours at night without a feeding; by 5 months, he can sleep for 10 or 11 hours straight. I read this in a parenting website. And my girl is sleeping at a stretch of around 5 hrs. As soon as she woke up she realizes her hungry and will start her crying

A baby who is able to regulate his feeding and sleeping cycles need not be awakened. At this age your baby needs to feed six to eight times a day, will urinate a minimum of seven times and should sleep for a total of about 14 hours in a day. When you have doctors visits the weight gain should be on track. Allow your baby to set his own rythm.

Let the baby sleep...when hungry he will wake up on his own.
