Q:

My little one takes feed from one side for 15 mins ( she doesn't doze off in between drinks straight for 10 or 15 mins) n sleeps for 2 hrs. In the beginning when I offered the 2nd breast she dint take. For past 2 days I'm noticing her waking up for feeds have become more frequent.. may be growth spurts.. If I want to offer the 2nd breast also what should be the time gap? Is burp necessary after first breast feed? Also she spits extra milk with 1 breast feed itself.. is it necessary to offer the 2nd breast also?;

Revauthi Rajamani

Hey Rebecca
It's better you feed from both the breast, as it saves you from breast engorgement.
Secondly, it is recommended to give atleast five minutes breaks not more than that before changing the sides.
Try to burp before you change, this is recommended by pediatricians.
Make time for both the breasts, if you feed for twenty minutes, spilt the feeds for both the breasts may be ten minutes each.
It's better you feed like this, a few mom feed from one side too. But make it a habit between two to make u few comfortable.

Rebecca
What I do is let mannabhai; feed from one breast and then offer second one in second round .. if it's not leaking and baby is asleep
. Let it be ..; finish one breast if it's not empty don't be in a hurry to offer second one .. if she has gained bw..then let her feed as per her.. but offer breast simultaneously..
Take care

Rebecca Prakash if baby has regained birth weight then 15mins for her is enough if not u shud tap her foot wake her up and feed .usually babies feed 15 to 20mins tats natural for all.so dnt worry.make sure she has regained her bw.
Offer 1 breast for 1 feed.nxt time give other breast coz breast milk has 2 sections.1st one is fore milk and then comes hind milk baby needs both so if u change breast baby only gets fore milk which is not gud alone.baby shud get both so at 6am if ur feeding from right breast let her finish after 2hrs wen she asks for feed give her left ok.
Growth spurts thing :maintaing 2hrs gap is gud for mom as v need rest and v must b out of stress .keep on feeding makes us go tired and chance of getting anger or pissed off on baby.but of baby is crying then u can always offer remember tat u shud hav lots of patience..
As i told one time one braest.burping after each feed is best practice to avoid gas reflux probs..if she spits curdled milk after burping no issues.if she spits whole fed milk many times then issue to look at.sry for long ans

Rebecca Prakash

Rishi Paayal hey no need to apologise for long answer.. Thankyou for explaining in detail.. I follow the same method like you said and she use to sleep for 2 hrs but for past 2 days she gets up for feed in 1 hr itself(of course my sleep is disturbed more) So I'm thinking i will offer both breast at one time with 5 mins gap. For sure she would have gained more than her BW because I; can see the difference. . Anyways her check up is due on 21st feb will know the weight then.

Rebecca Prakash

nancy singh yeah from noon I offered both with 5 mins gap and she is taking it. Guess her stomach is growing... and she doesn't doze off at all madam drinks straight 15 mins 😕 I'm thinking how her eating habits are going to be.

Rebecca Prakash

Thankyou Revauthi Rajamani; your detailed answer is always helpful.

My baby too latch one breast and fall asleep i dnt get chance to offer her 2nd breast. But one thing all ped referr is do burp after every feed. Baby do spit extra milk my baby also do but even in the middle of the night i do burp my baby if she doesnt burp atleast keep her in your shoulder for 10 min.

Akshaya Naresh

Agree with everyone. I follow like Nancy said. These babies keep changing their feeding habits becca!!

Akshaya Naresh

And if you feel she's full after feeding one side, you need not offer the other one.Atleast that's what I do.Burp baby after feeding one side.

Rebecca Prakash

Yeah Akashu but her stomach is growing I guess now she is taking feed from both breast in 5 mins gap.. I was just concerned about the time gap to give.

Rebecca Prakash

I spend alsmost 45 mins for 1 feed. 15 mins if she drinks I keep her on my shoulders for 10 mins then give tummy time and let her have a deep sleep on me then I put her on bed and she wakes up in another 30 mins because she got a habit of getting up every 1 hr for feed. 😢

Akshaya Naresh

That's quite a lot of work!!!you've got real patience!!

Akshaya Naresh

Idhuvum kadandhu pogum! ! :)

Mrs Chhoker

Initially I used to feed adhi one breast in one time but slowly he started to take feed from both sides at a time I; burped him after each switch n then feed him again on second side, n if she is full it's not necessary to offer him second breast but if you want to offer both sides at same you can divide time

Priya

Rebecca Prakash if she wakes up every hour, then she is not full.

Vipra Naik

My doc suggested to feed from one breast till it is empty as baby can get hindmilk.; Then if the baby need more burp n switch to other side. In next feed start from the next breast and vice versa. I m doing the same n my baby weight is increasing as well.

Sumira Bhatia

As she grows, her feeds would increase as well . I normally offer just the one breast each feed since the beginning . . And let him sleep and wake up and feed with the other breast .; . Burping is important to prevent spit ups or holding the baby up

manvi bhandari

Hi Rebecca Prakash all moms hv given u awesome advices. I too did the same as nancy told. But in ur ans i read u r giving tummy time just after feed nd burp. To me my ped told, feed nd tummy time should hv gap of atlst 30 to 45 mins min. Nd as her qty is increasing, after burping of 10 mins u can offer ur second breast by tickling up baby on feet or ears. So that when her tummy vl be full she vl sleep properly. Nd u both vl get rest. Tc

Nancy Singh

manvi bhandari agree with you darling .. no tummy time with full stomach .. it should be given when baby is active and has not taken feed for atleast half an hour. For now 3-5 mins is more then enough ...
Try to feed in lying down position so that she sleeps and you can also rest darling

Rebecca Prakash

Tummy time is letting the baby lie down on us right? Or putting the baby upside down?

Revauthi Rajamani

Hi
Tummy time is placing a baby on her stomach only while awake;but under supervision

Rebecca Prakash

She is just 1 month old .. can I place her like that?

Nancy Singh

Yes becca but only under supervision; and not for more then 5 mins for now..
Kiwi would have 3 to 4 tummy time session of 2 mins each when she was a month

manvi bhandari

Yes rebacca. Agree with nancy. 5 mins is enough for her now. Slowly u can increase it as she grows. But maintain a gap of atlst 30 mins after feed
