What’s Good: The bookstore is conveniently located on the second floor of Oberoi Mall. It is spacious and well-lit. The front of the door is wide and welcoming. There is a red carpet on the entrance to give it a jazzy look. The children’s section has books on child’s level, so a child can independently take a book and explore it. There are cushy stools in the store which enhance one’s reading experience. The music in the store is always pleasing (mostly instrumental) and it has never disturbed me or my child. The staff is also friendly and help you find a book whenever you need. As a member of the store you get some cashback points. One is invited for book launches and events in the store and once my child went for Juggling and Magician Show and he quite loved it. If one needs a book urgently, you can call or e-mail them and they send it quickly. During the sale season, one gets good discounts and good deal on toys and stationery.
What’s not: Since the store is in mall, it is always crowded especially on the weekends. The store is not organised at all. When you enter the store, one sees toys, pens, CDs, T-shirts etc. but the books are stacked behind. The collection of the children’s books is pretty average with Lady Bird and some random publications. The books are also not stacked properly and often the categories are mixed up. Also, there are too many toys in the store, which keep distracting my child. What nags me the most is that they have stocked up sweets and chocolates near their billing desk, my child always troubles me to get him some as we are waiting to get our stuff billed. It is a good marketing strategy but as a mom I disapprove of it.
Overall, Crossword is not just a bookstore but a house for many things. One can love it or hate it but it is the only option in the area. One can drop into the store during the weekend outings or our shopping trips.
