My six-year old knows most aspects of menstruation and how babies are born. Yes, you read it right. If you want to know the whys, hows, and what ifs of it, then read on. I hope this will prove helpful to all those who are on the fringe of whether or not to talk about the bird and bees.

.

So, it all started because my husband and I had decided not to lie to my son or give vague answers when it comes to feeding his curiosity. I am always a proponent of normalizing menstruation talk and pushing it beyond hushed voices and taboos.

.

My son asked how was he born, and we would both told that he came from my tummy. As he grew his questions grew and he asked how was he able to breathe inside. We explained him everything about the umbilical cord and how it transferred nutrients from mom to baby.

.

His questions obviously did not end at that, he went on asking more questions and the maximum that we could tell him was that you need two seeds to form a baby, one from dad and one from mom. Luckily at this very time @our.world.of.words posted a very interesting book by @corysilverberg "What makes a baby" I highly recommend this book to all parents because it explains the concept of sperms, egg, and an uterus without sexualizing it. This provided a great insight about how he was born in an age appropriate manner.

.

Then what about menstruation? How and why that topic?

.

I suffer from dysmenorrhoea, which gives me immense pain in my lower back during periods. My son would hear us talking about it and see my husband giving me a hot water bag. Once while we were talking, my son suddenly said, "are you talking about Whisper? (a sanitary napkin brand)" We were stunned to hear this and realized he has seen sanitary napkin ads on television. Because we had decided not to lie, we explained him how this occurs to women only starting from teenage, how the egg (he had learned earlier from the book) passes out of the uterus, and the cramps gives pain while bleeding.

.

This is all he knows. And I am so glad I explained this to him because the other day he told my husband to gift him a hot water bag for Diwali 🙄 Guess why? He wants to take care of his wife when he grows up 😁

#unedited #unfiltered It's not just this photo, it's about this post too. It's been long since I posted something meaningful. But Instagram has this constraint, you can't write your heart out unless you don't accompany it with a pretty picture.

.

Monday saw a whole galore of women's day special quotes, messages, and posts. HR flooded our emails with wishes, some got flowers and chocolates. As the day closed, the remaining wishes bade goodbye, and remained quietly folded in the corner of our hearts only to be revived next year.

.

What happens for the remainder of days? Life continues, the woman who got flowers throws the wilted ones in the dustbins where they meet the chocolate wrappers lying there from the previous day. The HR mails find their way to the deleted folder and the day goes on.

.

Does women's day come to an abrupt end? How do you define what makes women feel special? Do we, women want to feel special? Do we really need all the flowers and chocolates and a dedicated day to feel celebrated?

.

How do you continue to celebrate "a day" when girls continue to get raped, abused, and killed?

.

How do you continue to celebrate "a day" when a girl is expected to get married, bear kids, not have careers and expected to justify not having a career under the pretext of "stay at home by choice"?

.

How do you continue to celebrate "a day" when girls who have careers are labelled as negligent toward their kids?

.

How do you continue to celebrate "a day" when "stay at home dads" are rarest of the rare and moving towns, cities, states, or countries because of wife's job is so unheard of?

.

How do you continue to celebrate "a day" when in India, moving out of in-laws house is still a taboo? (I did that, I truly wish you all could.)

.

How do you continue to celebrate "a day" when it is mandatory to take on husband's family name after marriage? ( I didn't take his name.)

.

I have NO answers to these questions, do you? To all of you "HAPPY WOMEN'S DAY". Keep rocking, keep fighting.

.

Until then, I will TEACH MY SON HOW EVERY DAY IS A WOMEN'S DAY.

.

Love

Gouraja

Do you know that your greatest weakness could turn into your greatest strength?

.

Sometimes every thing seems to entangle and present itself in form of your deepest fears, insecurities, and self doubt. You feel crushed as you get sunk deep into pessimism.

.

But the greatest win for me is my little boy who never fails to spread his infectious positivity. The sparkle in his eyes makes me stronger, braver, and allows me to believe in myself and recognize my true potential.

.

How many times have you turned to your children and wondered how you would have been a completely different person had they not been there for you ❤️

.

They are your weakness and yet they are also your greatest source of strength 💪.
.

.Life is beautiful, but what's even more surreal is the unwavering faith that things are turning better. And it's possible because this small kid refuses to give up on me. Every single time. He never backs down and teaches me some extremely important life lessons that are difficult to learn otherwise. As I teach him life skills he becomes my teacher to show me the beauty that can be found in the smallest of things. Be it looking at the rustling leaves, the ripples in the glass tumbler, or the sound of the ocean when you hold an empty glass to your ears. It's magical, mesmerizing, and beyond comprehension.

.

Is your weakness also your strength? Have you flt empowered? Did you feel you have it all together because of these loving souls? Have you felt something similar? Do share your views I would love to know in comments

.

Until then,

Gouraja

I haven't been posting much since a while. Honestly, I had nothing much to share. The "keep going you've got this" message lost its value when I got very comfortable working from home, managing my son's school, and handling daily chores. Life moves on. As it will for each one of you.

.

But I found this seven year old picture lying in my gallery, and I realized how hopeful and positive it is. This was taken in Kerala, in 2013 with a very rudimentary Samsung Corby phone. I don't even know what megapixel it had but this striking natural beauty is totally unedited and unfiltered.

.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, and we all will get to the other side. Suddenly, the message "Keep going, you've got this" makes complete sense.

.
The world may not seem all that great now, but yet it is important to ponder on small wins and achievements. How well have you handled yourself when you time and again thought you would fail? it's just not a matter of discipline, but a matter of utmost resilience and perseverance that drives you every single day to get up and propel yourself; to embrace every moment.

.

This is just the right time to sit back and reflect on those times; where you successfully fought off all the negative thoughts and smiled away to keep yourself sane and healthy.

.

It is now only a while, there is peace and happiness just around the corner. Do not lose hope. Hope is the best gift you can give yourself. It's free, contagious, and a sure mood uplifter.
And definitely always remember "you've got this, and you will reach the other end of the tunnel

.

So what keeps you going? Do let me know.

It's been more than two months since I stepped outside. Neither has my son. Our society has restricted access to the terrace. We also don't own a terrace flat where you can smell some fresh air. We've been home ever since.

.

What really surprises me is that my son has been cool as a cucumber throughout this entire lockdown. .

Each of us reacts differently to this situation. Some of you may start slowly getting used to the new normal. You may work around and find comfort in the little joys of life. However, for some of you, it may just be the opposite. You may feel flustered, irritated, and confused. The uncertainty, the sudden change in your routine, and powerlessness to handle most happenings, may make things worse. In such situations, who keeps you grounded?

.

.

We stay in a nuclear family, and in such times it's difficult to handle a small child, make him understand the current scenario, and complete all chores in tme before work starts. I wouldn't have been able to survive this lockdown if my husband wouldn't have been so positive and supportive throughout. Who else would've handled our 5-year old endless yapper in the background, when I am on calls? 🤣

.

My husband and my mom are my go-to people. I have seen most mothers and daughters do share a special bond. I am quite blessed because my mom does stay quite close to my house. I do miss meeting her in this lockdown. Who's your go-to person? How are you coping with this? Have you reached the limit of your sanity or are you still tugging hard and trying to stay afloat?
